Summer construction phased project including over 3800 LF of roadway, sidewalks, replacement of utility and data lines, installation of new storm sewers, and water lines. Storm water quality was addressed through structural and natural Best Management Practices. We prepared an infrastructure study that investigated options for the proposed improvements, provided costs associated with the improvements, and prioritized the projects. The first phase of the project included storm sewers and water quality measures for Potter Lake and preparation of construction documents from the Chi Omega fountain to Poplar Lane. Phase 2 of the project was from Poplar Lane to Sunflower and includes roadway, utilities, and bus stations. Phase 3 consisted of 800 LF of roadway, Sunflower to 14th Street. Phase 4 was from 14th Street to Docking Gateway, including the beautiful Ascher Plaza. All four phases have required sensitivity to the historic nature of this thoroughfare. Maintaining the historic fabric of the area is paramount for the university and was deeply considered throughout the design process. Maintenance of vehicular and pedestrian access as well as bus access through the construction was achieved with detailed phasing and traffic control plans. Extensive utility coordination was also required for all phases.
