SK Design Group served as the Civil Engineers during
the masterplanning, design and construction of this
beautiful urban park. A large number of blighted buildings
were knocked down to make way for the park, thus encouraging
the nearby construction of two new federal buildings
and private investment in several other office buildings
in the area. The park is named after the City’s
mayor from 1963 to 1971. The park stretches two blocks
north from Kansas City, Missouri City Hall to the
federal court-house. A small fountain spouts water
that flows into a large reflecting pool. Four granite
pillars form an impressive memorial honoring city
employees who died in public service. Hundreds of
perennials and dozens of trees adorn the park. SK
Design Group
was responsible for the preparation of plans and specifications
for the demolition of existing dilapidated buildings,
relocation of major utilities, site grading, site
utilities, and perimeter
public improvements.
